CIG & CIH courses​

Certificate of Interpretive Guiding (CIG™)

The Certificate of Interpretive Guiding (CIG) course is designed for interpreters who regularly lead interpretive programs and would like to learn more about the fundamentals of interpretation. During this course you will participate in group activities, write a program outline, and deliver a 10-minute presentation on a topic of your choice.

📚 Course Content (32 hours)

  • The history, definition, and principles of interpretation
  • Techniques to make your programs purposeful, enjoyable, relevant, organized, and thematic
  • How to use tangible objects to connect your audience to intangible ideas and universal concepts

🎯 Learning Outcomes

  • The history of the interpretive profession
  • The basic principles of interpretation
  • Creating a program outline
  • Leading a thematic interpretive presentation
​

✅ Prerequisites

  • You must be at least 16 years old to register

​

💵 Registration Rates

  • $600 - Regular Registration (includes a complimentary one-year NAI membership)
  • $525 - With NAI Member Discount

Certification Fees

Material fees may be added to cover the cost of snacks, classroom rental, printing, etc.

Additional Fees

If you request your course less than 30 days from the start (for courses in the U.S.) or less than 45 days from the start (for courses outside the U.S.), you will be charged a $25 fee and rush shipping charges.
Also, travel and per diem expenses will be added to the rate. 
There is a 15-person limit for one instructor.
Minimums apply for one instructor.

Certificate of Interpretive Hosting (CIH™)

The Certificate of Interpretive Hosting (CIH) course is designed for those who work at an interpretive site and have contact with the public but do not lead interpretive programs. During the course, you will participate in group activities and complete a video exam.

📚 Course Content (16 hours)

  • The history, definition, and principles of interpretation
  • How to provide great customer service
  • Hospitality and communication skills

🎯 Learning Outcomes

  • The history of the interpretive profession
  • The basic principles of interpretation
  • Using informal interpretation in communications
  • Providing excellent customer service

✅ Prerequisites

  • You must be at least 16 years old to register
​

💵 Registration Rates

  • $475 - Regular Registration (includes a complimentary one-year NAI membership)
  • $400 - With NAI Member Discount
